Bitouzet-Prieur

Based in Volnay, Domaine Bitouzet-Prieur has been a pillar of Burgundian winemaking since 1804. Today, François Bitouzet, a sixth-generation winemaker, carries on this rich legacy. The domaine spans 12 hectares of prime land, primarily divided between the prestigious appellations of Meursault, Volnay, and Beaune.

In Meursault, their holdings include parcels in some of the most esteemed Premier Crus, such as Charmes, Perrières, and Santenots. Their Volnay holdings are equally impressive, featuring Taillepieds, Clos des Chênes, Pitures, and Caillerets (not to be confused with the Les Caillerets of Puligny-Montrachet). In Beaune, they own 1.25 hectares of the Premier Cru vineyard of Cent-Vignes, a mid-slope site located just north of Beaune.

In the Vineyard

The domaine has been dedicated to organic viticulture since 1995, though they are not certified. They meticulously practice their sustainable approach, using organic compost only when necessary to enrich the soil. All harvesting is done manually, ensuring the gentle handling of their prized grapes.

In the Cellar

For white wines, the focus is on developing texture and richness through extensive lees aging. Approximately 20% new oak is used, depending on the vintage's capacity to integrate it seamlessly. These white wines are typically bottled 18 months after harvest.

The Wine

Exhibits red fruit quality, slightly dried, with light jammy notes of cassis, strawberry and red cherry. Savory, truffle notes with elevated acidity on the palate and taut structure. Drinks well right now, but some aging would definitely benefit the wine, too.
