The name De Wetshof has been synonymous with the production of fine wines in South Africa since the 1970’s. As the first registered wine estate in the Robertson Wine Valley, De Wetshof has become known internationally as South Africa’s eminent Chardonnay House due to the pioneering role it played in introducing this noble Burgundian grape to the country. The Estate is now run by brothers, Johann and Peter.
Robertson is located in the Western Cape where most of the South African Viticulture takes place. In the shadow of the Langeberg Mountains, enjoys a continental climate with sizable diurnal shift, which allows the grapes to cool down during the night, prolonging the growing seasons and retaining freshness.
Lesca Chardonnay was handpicked during the cool early mornings and fermented in a mix of first-, second-, and third-fill French oak barrels. Post-fermentation, the wine spent extended time on the lees with weekly bâtonnage, developing texture, depth, and integration. Aging continued in barrel until the wine met the estate’s exacting quality standards.
